In 2000, Supreme used Louis Vuitton's famous monogram as inspiration for their heavily inspired box logo. This design features similar color ways and designs as the original LV monogram. The typical “LV” has been replaced by their own “S”. The use of this monogram can be seen as a tribute and symbol of paying homage to the prosperous French luxury brand. However, Supreme is also known as a very anti-corporate politically conscious brand with their famous “Fuck you, we do what we want” slogan. Therefore, this piece can easily be interpreted as a form of protest and mockery towards the luxury brand. Almost directly after it being released Louis Vuitton filed a lawsuit against Supreme and urged them to withdraw all pieces from the collection. This lead to Supreme taking back all of the non sold pieces and canceling the release. 17 years after the lawsuit, the same people from Louis Vuitton approached Supreme for a summer collaboration making Supreme the first ever brand of its kind appearing on the high end runway.
